Boy falls through classroom ceiling

An 11-year-old boy was in critical condition yesterday after falling through the ceiling of a classroom at Hawaiian Mission Elementary & Intermediate School on Makiki Street, said Emergency Medical Services assistant chief Donnie Gates.

The boy was retrieving cardboard for a Halloween project from an attic storage area when he fell through the ceiling and onto the classroom floor.

He was taken to The Queen's Medical Center.


HFD SUSPENDS SEARCH FOR SURFER

Honolulu Fire Department rescue personnel suspended the search yesterday for a surfer who was last seen about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday paddling out from Keawa'ula Bay (Yokohama) toward Ka'ena Point.

Firefighters searched by air until dusk yesterday for the surfer, who was described as a man in his 40s. His truck, with the keys still in the ignition, was found near the beach, said Fire Capt. Emmit Kane.

"Based upon the wind conditions, the length of time he's missing, it's now a police matter," Kane said.


BODY RECOVERED OFF WAI'ANAE

Firefighters and lifeguards yesterday found the body of a man floating in the ocean off the Wai'anae Coast at 2 p.m.

The body was brought out of the water near the Wai'anae Mall area. The body is believed to be that of a 60-year-old man. Police said they do not believe foul play is involved.


HILO GIRL, 15, LAST SEEN OCT. 2

Big Island police are looking for a 15-year-old girl reported missing from her home in Hilo since Oct. 2.

Felecia Fawn Braden is described as 5 feet 2 and about 105 pounds, with a slim build, fair complexion and brown hair.
